Peru Quake: Death Toll Rises

Officials from the Government of Peru have stated that at least 72 people were killed and more than 680 injured in the powerful earthquake that shook Peru last night. As mentioned in our earlier updates on this blog, the Peruvian Civil Defence System (Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil - INDECI) is now in the process of revising their casualty count as new information comes in and are currently setting up a situation room to respond to the emergency while all flights from the international airport in Lima have been temporarily suspended.

Turkey's search and rescue team is monitoring the situation and have been placed on stand by while the UNDAC have sent out a M1, it's first alert message to their UN regional team in the Americas, UN Agencies and the OCHA for a possible mobilization and deployment in response to this disaster.
